Experienced domain investors, some of whom have transitioned to other fields while others continue, have compiled these 9 pieces of advice based on their years of investment experience. Let's see if these words of wisdom resonate.
1. Do not register or minimize registrations of low-value, high-registration-cost, and domain names with no end-user value.
2. Understand whether the end-users for the domain names you register are in China or abroad. Double-pin domains are undoubtedly within the Chinese-speaking world. When it comes to single words and word combinations, look at the suffix. Almost the entire world recognizes domain names consisting of single words and word combinations. However, in the Chinese-speaking world, these have mostly become collectibles. In the early days of open suffixes, it was also one of the first types to be widely acquired.
3. For domain names with daily traffic, it is recommended to park them; if you can earn some revenue, that's a good approach. Creating sales pages for them would be a waste of traffic.
4. Pay less in tuition fees, and you're more likely to endure until the time of end-user pricing. The best way to pay fewer tuition fees is not to impulsively register. Registrations made without thorough research typically result in domains that are prepared to be discarded after a year. Generally, it takes 2-3 years of registration and renewal for domain investors to determine whether a domain is valuable.
5. Short domains are highly regarded for their investment value. In terms of combinations, there is a limited quantity, and in applications, short domains are convenient for branding and easy to input. Since there are numerous suffixes, they greatly influence the level of investment risk. Therefore, heavily investing in short domains is a way and strategy to reduce risk. Many Chinese people prefer short domains. Just like QQ domains, accessing websites using such simple domain names is a form of internet enjoyment.
6. The endpoint for domains is in sales. The more people like a domain and the more people visit it, the higher the price will rise, similar to bidding. Planning for domains several years in advance, domains are like fruit trees from seed to blossoming, and the harvest season is when domain investors profit.
7. Domain investors have only two profit strategies: one is to go for quantity, and the other is to go for high prices. Making a profit with low-margin quantity is very challenging, and even going for quantity at a loss is not easy. In today's landscape, making a profit with low margins and quantity is nearly impossible, and it comes with high risks. Therefore, going for high prices is the only choice.
8. The variety of prefixes and suffixes chosen by domain investors determines the two major factors of future investment risk and investment success. Investment is about planning for the future in advance, minimizing costs, and reducing risks as much as possible.
9. The lowest cost for international domain names is overseas, primarily in the United States, where the high-tech industry is their pillar sector. The lowest cost for domestic domain names is within the country. Opportunities exist everywhere, and both international and domestic domain names are worth investing in for domain investors.
In recent years, the domestic and international markets have not been very friendly, and the domain industry has been greatly impacted. For newcomers looking to enter the domain investment field, the above tips are very important. These tips are not limited to this alone, as times change rapidly. Currently, domains related to artificial intelligence and blockchain are quite popular, so interested individuals can consider these areas.
