In modern society, a mobile phone is an incredibly common item. In China today, people can accomplish a multitude of tasks using their mobile phones, including making payments, taking photos, sending messages, browsing the internet, and even paying utility bills. Whatever they want to buy can be delivered to their doorstep, and current food delivery services can even bring pre-cut and prepared meals right to their homes. It can be said that as long as a mobile phone has battery power, it can accomplish many tasks. However, almost all companies and organizations still use their own landlines and phone numbers. Why is that?

The reason is that while mobile phones are convenient for portability, their signal stability is not as reliable as that of landlines. A landline is similar to a business's fixed office address. If you establish a business and don't even have a consistent physical office space, it damages the image of the enterprise. Additionally, it can affect credibility, leading to a certain level of reputation loss. Therefore, for companies, having a landline is still necessary.

According to the "2020-2026 China Fixed Telephone Industry Market Development Status Survey and Investment Trend Prospect Analysis Report" published by Bosidata, by the end of 2019, China had accumulated a total of 191.033 million fixed telephone users, with a cumulative year-on-year growth rate of 4.8%.

Many things might seem worthless until you truly understand their value. Fixed telephones have been around for 145 years, and currently, there are still nearly 200 million people using them. In contrast, the internet has only been around for 52 years. So, how can domain names not have value?

There are still people using the telephone, and the Internet has only been born for 52 years. How can domain names be useless?

1. Rapid Development of the Internet

Currently, a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation is rapidly evolving. New technologies, applications, and business models such as 5G, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of Things are flourishing. The internet is experiencing stronger momentum and broader development opportunities.

The pandemic brought new opportunities and challenges to the internet industry. During the pandemic, internet applications such as online education, e-government services, and online shopping flourished. The user base grew by 110.2%, 76.3%, and 16.4% compared to the end of 2018. This provided new internet solutions for epidemic prevention, control, and convenience, indicating that domain names still hold immense development potential.

2. Focus of Major Corporations on Domain Names

1. Substantial Investment in Brand Domain Names

One conspicuous aspect of major companies valuing domain names is their significant investment in or protection of brand domain names. For instance, Facebook spent $8.5 million to acquire FB.com, JD.com invested 30 million RMB in JD.com, Xiaomi acquired Mi.com for $3.6 million, and companies like Le.com and 360.com have seen substantial investments in domain names. Major companies spare no effort in acquiring and safeguarding brand domain names.

2. Quantity of Domain Names

Google doesn't just own google.com; Alibaba has more than taobao.com, and JD.com has more than JD.com. These companies hold numerous domain names, including ones closely related to their brands as well as those that can be easily misspelled or come with various extensions. This includes domain names that might not seem directly related to their brands.

For example, Google owns not only google.com but also google.cn, google.net, google.com.cc, google.tv, google.org, as well as pinyin versions like guge.com and guge.cn. There are also variations that are prone to misspelling, like goowgle.com and eoogle.com, alongside seemingly unrelated domain names like like.com, duck.com, and b-b.com. These companies employ extensive protection strategies for their domain names.

3. Thriving Domain Name Market

China has a population of around 1.4 billion and boasts one of the highest internet penetration rates in the world. This implies a massive demand for domain name resources in the Chinese internet market. A significant portion of the population consists of experienced internet users who are well-versed in domains and technology. In the current internet era, the importance of domain names cannot be underestimated. More and more enterprises and individuals consider domain names as their most critical online brands. This soaring demand for domain name resources has ignited the domain name investment industry. The intense interest in domain name investment has led to the development of a complete ecosystem, including domain name trading platforms, online auctions, domain name market data analysis, and financial leverage, forming a diverse landscape.

The extent of the internet's growth potential is mirrored by the domain name market. The fervor in the domain name market signifies that domain trading is on the rise, and the domain name buying and selling market is gradually expanding. Choosing a domain name marketplace for buying domain names ensures a worry-free entrepreneurial journey!
