Originally scheduled to be held in Muscat, Oman from October 25 to 30, 2025, ICANN84 will be moved to Dublin, the capital of Ireland. This change has been officially announced by ICANN, mainly due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East and its impact on flight operations.

According to relevant reports in the official ICANN announcement, although Oman itself is still considered a safe country, there have been several airport closures and flight disruptions due to the recent armed conflict in the surrounding airspace. After evaluating multiple factors related to conference safety, conference preparations and travel of participants, the ICANN Board of Directors believes that changing the venue is a "responsible and necessary" decision.
This is not the first time that Dublin has hosted the ICANN Conference - the previous ICANN 54 was successfully held here. The return to Dublin reflects ICANN's emphasis on a stable environment and its ability to quickly adjust in uncertain situations. The conference will maintain its original date and continue to adopt a hybrid format of "online + offline" to ensure extensive participation from the global community.
It is worth noting that ICANN did not cancel its partnership with Oman, but emphasized that it would look for new opportunities to hold meetings in the region in the future. This move not only shows respect for Internet governance participants in the Middle East, but also reflects a diplomatic strategy of balancing the interests of multiple parties in unstable times.
For the global domain name industry, the ICANN annual meeting is not only an important platform for policy discussions and governance updates, but also an important window for community collaboration, industry trend releases and domain name ecosystem participation. Although this relocation is a compromise with the actual security environment, it also highlights the continuation of ICANN's sense of responsibility for global Internet governance.
