As of October 25, 2024, the biggest domain name sale of the year so far was revealed, with Rocket.com topping the charts at $14 million. The sale not only set a record for the highest publicly reported sale, but also left Gold.com (which sold for $8.515 million) far behind in May of last year.
Background to the deal
It is important to emphasize that the $14 million is the actual net amount received by the seller, and that the buyer may have to pay additional commissions or fees, which, especially in a transaction of this size, can be quite substantial. While we typically use the full price paid by the buyer for our statistics, if no public information is available, the net amount will be used.
Other Highlighted Deals
In addition to the amazing sale price of Rocket.com, there were three other recent deals that reached six figures, and these were equally notable. The first was OOV.com, which sold for $400,000 and was completed by Jeff Gabriel and his Saw.com team. In addition, Timely.com was successfully transferred to buyer Timely AS for $228,825, giving it an edge over TimelyApp.com.
While .com domains dominated the top four spots, the non-.com gTLDs were no slouches either, with Fin.tech selling for $50,000 at Sedo in fifth place, followed by Huge.org at $40,000. In addition, ccTLDs performed quite well, especially .ai domains, with Rhyme.ai selling for $50,000 and Cloud.me for $42,500.
Here are the latest sales charts as of October 27, 2024
Please note that these figures are derived from the High Value Cash Sales report over the past two weeks and are intended to be an educational reference and are not a complete list of all high value domain sales. Due to requests from buyers and sellers, the details of many transactions remain confidential, and our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain name sales reports can be found at the relevant link.
As the domain market continues to evolve, 2024 looks to be a year to watch for more compelling deals that may emerge in the future.
