Didi is launching a new business, this time not for passengers, but for cargo!
On May 12th, Didi Freight introduced its WeChat Service Account, registered under the name "Beijing Kuaijue Anyun Company." The account's description reads, "Providing the latest information and services for Didi Freight drivers." On May 18th, Didi Freight officially began recruiting drivers, with the initial pilot cities being Hangzhou and Chengdu.
The freight industry has evolved into a systematic internet-based cargo transportation platform. As a newcomer, Didi Freight is entering this market and inevitably needs to choose a suitable domain name as the foundation for its expansion. Have they prepared relevant domain names for their cargo services? Today, let's take a look at the domain names of the top ten cargo platforms in China.
1. Huochebang
Huochebang is a brand under Chengdu Yunli Technologies Co., Ltd. It's one of China's largest road logistics internet information platforms, covering the entire country's cargo information network and providing comprehensive services for platform trucks. Their official website domain is huochebang.com, and they've secured huochebang.cn/com.cn as well as the three-letter domain hcb.cn, all of which lead to their website. Huochebang has not only protected relevant brand domain names but also made them accessible, making it convenient for users to remember and increasing access options.
2. Huo La La
Huo La La, formerly known as Lalamove, was founded in Hong Kong in 2013 and entered the Chinese mainland and Southeast Asian markets in 2014. It's operated by Shenzhen Huo La La Technology Co., Ltd. Huo La La is an internet logistics service platform that provides same-city and intercity freight services. Users can summon nearby trucks with one click through the app, and drivers instantly accept orders, similar to the "ride-sharing version for cargo." Previously, Huo La La used lalamove.com and easyvan.hk as their official domain names (now used for Huo La La's overseas website). Upon entering the Chinese market, they upgraded their domain name to huolala.cn to match their brand name, which also has the meaning of "hot and spicy," a commonly used phrase in daily language. While Huo La La has protected related domain names like huolala.co, the more brand-matching three-letter domain huolala.com is still in the hands of domain investors and has not been acquired by Huo La La.
3. Yunmanman
Yunmanman was founded in 2013 and is the first logistics dispatch platform in China developed based on cloud computing, big data, mobile internet, and artificial intelligence technologies. Their official website domain is ymm56.com, but they do not own related brand domain names.
4. Yun Niao
Yun Niao, operated by Beijing Yun Niao Technology Co., Ltd., was established in November 2014. It focuses on "same-city supply chain delivery" as an internet platform. They use the double-pinyin domain yunniao.cn for their official website and also hold 25 other three-letter domains.
5. Yun Li Fang
Yun Li Fang, developed by Beijing Yunke Network Technology Co., Ltd., is logistics management software tailored for specialized or third-party logistics enterprises, providing a one-stop management system for logistics, information flow, and capital flow. Their official website domain is yunlifang.com. Additionally, yunlifang.cn is the official domain name of another internet service company named "Yun Li Fang." yunlifang.com.cn is held by an investor.
6. Kuai Gou Da Che
Kuai Gou Da Che is a same-city freight brand launched by 58 Daojia, formerly known as 58 Suyun. It merged with Gogovan in 2017 and was officially renamed Kuai Gou Da Che in 2018. They continue to use the subdomain suyun.daojia.com, taking advantage of "suyun" which means "fast transportation," and it's associated with the top-level domain daojia.com for traffic. It seems they do not intend to directly use brand-related domain names. Furthermore, the four-character domain names related to Kuai Gou Da Che, such as kuaigoudache.com/.cn/.com.cn/.net, were all registered by domain investors before the name change. Currently, Kuai Gou Da Che has not protected these domain names.
7. Fu You Ka Che
Fu You Ka Che is a specialized internet transaction platform for full-truck transportation. Launched in March 2015, it focuses on providing high-quality, standard, and high-quality full-truck transportation services for cargo owners. They've received investments from JD Logistics, Junlian Capital, Zhongding Venture Capital, Prologis, and others. Their official website domain is the four-character "Fu You Ka Che" fuyoukache.com, but the brand-related domain names fuyoukache.cn/com.cn are not under their control.
8. Ju Ma JUMA
Ju Ma JUMA belongs to Sichuan Juma Enterprise Management Co., Ltd. It has been engaged in urban logistics delivery services since 2011 and has always focused on innovation and reform in urban logistics. Their official website domain is the four-character "Ju Ma Pei Song" jumapeisong.com. They also own brand-related domains like jumagroup.cn/com.cn.
9. Ka Xing Tian Xia
Ka Xing Tian Xia is a transaction network platform that provides services to small and medium-sized logistics companies. Their official website domain is kxtx.cn, but brand-related domains like kxtx.com/com.cn are not under their control.
10. China Wu Tong Wang
China Wu Tong Wang was founded in September 2008 and is a technology company specializing in information services for the logistics industry. Their official website domain is chinawutong.com, a combination of a word and pinyin. They have also protected related brand domain names like chinawutong.cn/com.cn.
In summary, except for Kuai Gou Da Che, which benefits from 58 Daojia's sub-brand domain name, other same-city freight brands have chosen unique pinyin or pinyin combinations as their exclusive domain names. Pinyin domain names are a unique category in the Chinese domain market because of the specific internet input and access habits of Chinese users. Pinyin domain names, being simple and easy to remember, align with Chinese input habits, greatly aiding brand promotion.
In retrospect, Didi rose to prominence in the passenger transportation market, which was also highly competitive. The cargo transportation market saw similar intense competition, with nearly 200 cargo transportation apps emerging between 2013 and 2016. After fierce competition, only a few players remain today. Companies like Manbang Group, formed through the merger of Yunmanman and Huochebang, and Fuyou Ka Che have dominated the long-haul logistics market. Meanwhile, Huo La La, Kuai Gou Da Che, and others have focused on same-city delivery. Based on the current
information, Didi Freight is likely to focus on same-city cargo transportation.
However, Didi has faced criticism for its domain names, both the previous xiaojukeji.com and the current official domain didiglobal.com, for being lengthy and cumbersome. While pinyin domain names are popular in China, overly long ones can lead to complicated input and potential user confusion, which is not fitting for an industry leader.
Furthermore, the mainstream domain names for "Didi Freight," such as didihuoyun.com/cn/com.cn and ddhy.cn, are not in Didi's possession. The four-character abbreviation domain ddhy.com is currently used as the official website domain for "Dingdang Health," and ddhy.com.cn is held by Dandong Huayang Textile. To acquire these domain names, significant effort may be required.
Perhaps Didi Freight and other freight platforms can follow the example of "Shenzhou Car Rental" and acquire the premium domain name huoyun.com, which represents the cargo transportation industry. The landscape of the cargo transportation industry has mostly taken shape, and having a premium domain name at this stage can significantly boost brand recognition and gradually establish a leading position in the industry, ultimately dominating the cargo transportation internet platform with the help of domain names.
