At the beginning of the new year in 2024, multiple domain registrars have adjusted domain prices, and several registrars have informed EnCirca that they will increase the prices of their top-level domains. These price updates impact not only EnCirca but also every domain registrar.
With the global economic environment not being favorable in recent years, various domain registrations have seen price increases, although not all domains are affected. A total of 15 domain suffixes, including ".pro," ".mobi," and ".info," will take immediate effect, while others will be implemented starting from February 1, 2024.
I recommend that if you plan to continue owning the domain, consider renewing it for several years before the price increase to avoid potential higher costs. Even if your domain is not due for renewal soon, you can choose to renew it now for up to 10 years at the current price for maximum savings. All renewals will be added to the current validity period of your domain.
Please review the list of top-level domains below to see if it applies to you. (Note: 1 USD ≈ 7.1611 RMB)
So, why do domain registration prices always increase? If I recall correctly, on September 1, 2023, the prices of .com domains collectively increased. The following 5 reasons may contribute to the rise in domain prices:
1. Cost Increase: Domain registrars may face rising operating costs, such as server maintenance, enhanced security, and employee costs. These cost increases may lead them to adjust prices to maintain profitability.
2. Service Improvements: If registrars have made improvements to their services, such as providing advanced security features or better customer support, they may increase prices to reflect these upgrades.
3. Market Demand: If there is an increase in demand for domain names, registrars may take advantage of market supply and demand dynamics to raise prices. During periods of high demand, price increases can enhance profitability.
4. Popularity of Domain Suffixes: Different domain suffixes may have varying levels of popularity, and some popular suffixes may see price increases because of their popularity, presenting business opportunities for registrars.
5. Policy Changes: Changes in government or domain registry policies can sometimes affect the operating costs of domain registrars, leading to price increases.
It's important to note that the price increases for domain registrars may vary due to company policies, market competition, and other factors. Users can typically find announcements or explanations about price adjustments on the registrar's website.
