According to leaks from foreign media, Zoom recently sent out notifications via email, stating its intention to upgrade the domain from Zoom.us to Zoom.com, currently reserved exclusively for email purposes.
According to leaks from foreign media, Zoom has recently notified users via email that it plans to upgrade its domain from Zoom.us to Zoom.com, initially for email purposes only. It is anticipated that Zoom will soon undertake a comprehensive transition from the .us domain to the .com domain.
Originally designed to provide video conferencing services for businesses and educational institutions, Zoom experienced a significant surge in users after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, becoming a primary tool for remote work and online education worldwide. Zoom is known for its user-friendly interface, high-quality video and audio communication, and robust collaboration features such as screen sharing, chat, and virtual backgrounds.
In 2018, Zoom made a forward-thinking move by acquiring the domain Zoom.com. The acquisition price, reportedly $2 million according to Namebio records, was paid to the original owner, Andrew Rosener. Given the global adoption of Zoom for remote communication and telecommuting, this acquisition proved to be a strategic decision.
Speculation arises that the company's intention may have been to transition from Zoom.us to Zoom.com, but such a move might have been deemed risky at the time. Instead, the company redirected Zoom.com to Zoom.us for several years. This precautionary measure allowed Zoom to market Zoom.com without confusing consumers or risking downtime during the domain transition period.
It appears that Zoom is now gearing up for a transition from .us to .com. Drew Wash shared a portion of the Zoom email he received, announcing changes to the company's email structure:
Drew kindly forwarded the email he received, and here is an excerpt:
"I suspect this is the start of the company fully moving from its Zoom.us presence to Zoom.com. I would imagine the entire website and presence will migrate to Zoom.com from Zoom.us within the year. Zoom has always been known simply as Zoom, and operating on Zoom.com makes the most sense for the company going forward."
Upcoming Email Address Domain Change
Hello,
I am reaching out to inform you that over the next few months we will be migrating our email addresses from @zoom.us to @zoom.com. You may receive emails from both domains, and I want to assure you that emails from these two domains are legitimate. To ensure there are no issues in communications and that you continue to receive emails from the Zoom Team, I recommend that you:
1. Update your contacts with my new zoom.com email address to prevent them from being sent to your spam folder.
2. Ensure that your systems include 'zoom.com' on your allow list where applicable (e.g., email filtering and spam systems).
3. In the coming months, you'll also notice our website and other collateral change to zoom.com.
