Global enterprises widely recognize that short domain names are not only easy to remember but also reflect strength. Therefore, in recent years, many renowned companies have been actively upgrading to shorter domain names.
On November 1, WooCommerce, the open-source e-commerce platform operated by Automattic, officially upgraded its domain from WooCommerce.com to the three-letter domain Woo.com.

In 2021, WooCommerce acquired the Woo.com domain at an undisclosed price. Since then, the company continued to operate under the WooCommerce brand, redirecting the shorter Woo.com to WooCommerce.com via a 301 redirect. It's not until today, two and a half years later, that the full upgrade to Woo was officially completed.
The company introduced its shortened brand, updated logo, and new domain in a blog post. Here's the company's share about the decision to officially rebrand as Woo:
"'Woo' has been a name that many of our loyal customers have referred to us by over the years. Our company and brand are now leaning into this name. It's a fun, powerful name that shows how passionate we are about helping merchants and developers succeed. The switch to Woo.com is part of this larger strategy."
Woo.com was registered in 1996, while WooCommerce.com was registered in 2010. "WooCommerce" is a combination of "WOO+Commerce," making the first three letters "Woo" the most suitable choice. Short and memorable, despite the word "Commerce" being quite broad, abandoning it allows the company to not be confined solely to "Commerce" but to have more possibilities. Moreover, as the company has rebranded to Woo, this change won't disrupt their visibility. Undoubtedly, this brand revitalization is a very wise decision.
