According to reports from foreign media, Google is set to launch the .ing top-level domain in October, offering a unique early access pricing schedule. The first week will cost $1 million! Subsequently, the price will gradually decrease. Google's official domain is Google.com, and the new .ing domain is designed for domain hackers. Think about hiking, writing, or domains.
As with most top-level domain releases, there will be a reverse auction-style early access period. During this launch phase, if people pay more fees, they can acquire domains before the official release.
The unusual aspect of the .ing early access period lies in its length and pricing.
The early access period runs from October 31st to December 5th. This is longer than the typical one-week period for most TLD launches. During the first month of this phase, the price will decrease each week. Then, starting from November 29th, the price will begin to decrease daily.
You might want to check your bank balance because the cost for the first month of the early access period is quite expensive.
Here is the pricing table from 101Domain:
First week: $1,100,000
Second week: $340,000
Third week: $115,000
Fourth week: $35,000
It's currently unclear what Google's wholesale pricing is, but this early access price is indeed steep, so it might be wise to wait for a while. Some registrars offering early access services for .ing, like webnames.ca, have quoted a price of $1.6 million for the first week. It's even more expensive than the one mentioned above, which is hard to fathom.
Typically, standard supply prices are quite reasonable. 101Domain plans to charge only $14.99 starting from December 5th. You might want to wait for that.
