A record resolution is the most common domain name resolution method. When choosing the record type, select "A," and enter the IP address provided by the hosting service as the record value. MX priority does not need to be set, and you can leave TTL at the default value of 3600. When selecting A record resolution, you need to pay attention to the following three points:
1. A Record Resolution:
- The corresponding value must be an IP address.
- The hostname must be filled in; you can use "@" to represent an empty hostname.
- For wildcard domain name resolution, enter "*" in the hostname field and add an A record.
A record resolution is favored by search engine crawlers because it ensures that each crawl is directed to a fixed IP address, avoiding unnecessary errors. However, A record resolution may have some drawbacks for users accessing the website from different networks. For example, if the website is hosted on a Telecom server and a user with China Unicom accesses it, the website's loading speed may be affected.
CNAME record resolution:
The method for setting up CNAME record resolution is similar to that of A record resolution. Change the record type to "CNAME" and enter the server's host address as the record value. However, the corresponding value is not a fixed IP but an alias address for the host. Here are the steps for configuring alias resolution using New.net as an example:
1. Enter "www" or another name in the hostname field.
2. Choose "CNAME" as the record type.
3. Enter the alias address in the record value field.
4. Click "Add" to complete the alias resolution setup.
Usually, alias resolution provides greater flexibility and ease of management. For example, when a host needs to change its IP for various reasons, if the domain has a CNAME record, you can simultaneously update the alias's resolution target without the need for new resolution operations. Additionally, for dual-line hosts with different interfaces corresponding to different IPs for Telecom and China Unicom, using alias resolution can effectively address this issue. However, CNAME records also have certain drawbacks. Some people believe that different IPs can have an impact on website optimization. When search engine crawlers crawl a site, frequent IP changes can lead to misconceptions about website stability. However, opinions on this matter may vary, and whether it's good or not depends on individual judgment.
Three, MX Record Resolution:
MX records are relatively less commonly used and are primarily used for email resolution. Select the record type as MX, line type as generic, or simultaneously add three line types for Telecom, China Unicom, and CERNET (China Education and Research Network). Enter the server's IP address or alias address provided by the email service provider as the record value. Set TTL to the default 3600. Fill in the MX priority as required by the email service provider, or use the default value of 10. When you have multiple MX records, be sure to set different priority values.
MX records have their uses, especially when setting up forums where user registration requires email verification. Using MX records to bind to a corporate email address can make your setup look more professional. Many service providers offer free corporate email services, so users with their own domain names can consider testing one.
Four, Other Resolutions:
In addition to the main three types of resolution mentioned above, there are also TXT records and URL forwarding. TXT is a text record used solely to describe domain record information and has no substantial impact on resolution. URL forwarding is achieved through server-specific settings that redirect users accessing your current domain to another specified web address. It's like implementing a one-time URL redirection and has minimal impact on website authority.
