An in-depth and comprehensive audience data study was recently released. The study, which meticulously surveyed U.S. consumers and investors, crafted 12 targeted questions on key aspects of domain name extension trust, connection to brands and impact on startup funding.
Here are some of the key takeaways from the study:
1. Trust: In the eyes of the majority of customers, .com domain names are undoubtedly the most trustworthy. When there is a situation where other brands are using the same name on different domain extensions, as many as 77% of consumers made it clear that such a scenario can be detrimental to trust. Moreover, 35% noted that the presence or absence of hyphens in a domain name also affects their level of trust in a website to some extent. In addition, additional words can also have an impact on trust, which was fed back by about 78% of consumers.
2. Familiarity: The degree of familiarity with different domain name alternative extensions varies widely among consumers. Among them, 51% of consumers are familiar with the .co domain name; while in the group of respondents engaged in technical work, their familiarity with the .io and .ai domain names is even higher, with 77% familiar with the .io domain name and 89% familiar with the .ai domain name.
3. In terms of domain name importance: up to 77% of consumers believe that matching domain names precisely is crucial. From an investor's point of view, 73% of investors said that a single English domain name is of great help to a company in obtaining funding, and can even be said to be a major influencing factor.
