On September 12, 2024 at 16:00 (CET), domain name trading platform Dan.com announced that it will merge with Afternic and unveiled plans regarding the closure of Dan.com. According to the announcement, Dan.com will begin account migration to Afternic in the near future and will officially close after the migration is complete.
As of today, new customers will not be able to sign up for accounts at Dan.com. Next, a four-week migration window will begin, allowing existing users to migrate their Dan.com accounts to Afternic, with options to migrate on their own, automatically, or opt out of the migration altogether:
1. Self-Migration: Users can choose to handle the migration on their own, migrating their account directly to Afternic and immediately using all the features of its platform.
2. Automatic Migration: After users select this option, Afternic will automatically complete the migration at the end of the migration window.
3. Opt-Out: Users can choose to opt out of the migration. If opted out, the listings on Dan.com will be deleted at the end of the migration period and no further sales activity will take place on the platform.
There are a few key points to keep in mind during the migration process:
1. While Dan.com's name servers will continue to operate, users who wish to use servers other than Afternic Custom Lander will need to transfer their name servers to Afternic.
2. Existing Rent-to-Own deals will be transferred to Afternic in November.
3. If users have ongoing negotiations on Dan.com, they will need to complete them before the end of the migration period.
Afternic says that with the exception of the self-brokerage feature, almost all of Dan.com's other features are already available on the Afternic platform. The exact release date for the self-service brokerage feature has not yet been announced, although it will be available soon.
