The company operates through the domain CamelQA.com, and the Austin, Texas-based startup is not yet in product market fit (PMF) mode. Essentially, the CamelQA product is in pre-testing, and it needs to demonstrate a degree of utility before seeking funding from investors and venture capital funds.
The company's founder, Isabella Reed, has attempted to acquire the Camel.ai domain name from a registrant who offered her $200 for a generic dictionary domain in the popular top-level domain. For at least two consecutive years, several .AI dictionary words have sold for more than $100,000 dollars.
When the registrant and rightful owner of Camel.ai stated that he paid $40,000 for the domain and hinted at the expected offer, Ms. Reed attempted to ridicule him in front of his peers with nicknames such as "squatter".
An interesting debate ensued via X/Twitter, with dozens of major anti-investor accounts encouraging the CamelQA.com founder to wage some undeclared war against the alleged "squatter" and his attempts at "scamming".
Of course, some seasoned domain investors who have been working in the domain industry for hundreds of years are also involved. This is not the first time that ambitious entrepreneurs fresh out of college have tried to attack and discredit the entire domain name industry, only to learn the truth about life on the Internet.
