Public upgraded its domain name from HelloPublic.com to Public.com, as announced to the public in 2023.The behind-the-scenes story of the acquisition was detailed at the time by the company's co-founder, Jannick Malling, and today Leif Abraham shared more specific details. It was revealed that Public closed the deal by paying for it in installments, thereby alleviating short-term financial pressures and furthering the company's business growth.

Specifically, Public made an initial payment of $150,000 for the acquisition of Public.com and reached an agreement with the seller to pay $4,000 per month in 36 monthly installments to complete the payment. Ultimately, Public paid off the remaining $606,000 in 18 months in advance.

Public acquired the domain name from Anything.com, an investment company with a large portfolio of premium domain names, and the seller in this transaction was represented by Larry Fischer of Get Your Domain, while ESQWire.com handled the transaction and escrow services.This 2021 deal was also included in the Embrace.com's recently released list of word.com domains for sale.
