Domain name registrations for all top-level domains (TLDs) amounted to 362.4 million in the second quarter of 2024, unchanged from the first quarter of 2024. Domain name registrations increased by 5.8 million, or 1.6%, year-over-year.

At the end of the second quarter of 2024, the total number of registrations in the .com and .net TLDs in the domain name pool was 170.6 million, a decrease of 1.8 million domain name registrations, or 1.1%, compared to the first quarter of 2024. Compared to the same period last year, the total number of registrations in the .com and .net top-level domains decreased by 3.8 million domain name registrations, or 2.2%. As of June 30, 2024, the .com domain name pool totaled 157.6 million domain name registrations and the .net domain name pool totaled 13.0 million domain name registrations. New .com and .net domain name registrations totaled 9.2 million at the end of the second quarter of 2024, compared to 10.2 million domain name registrations at the end of the second quarter of 2023.The preliminary combined renewal percentage for .com and .netTLDs in the second quarter of 2024 was 72.6%.

The total number of country code top-level domain (ccTLD) domain name registrations at the end of the second quarter of 2024 was 140 million, an increase of 400,000 domain name registrations, or 0.3%, compared to the first quarter of 2024. ccTLD domain name registrations increased by 3 million, or 2.2%, year-over-year. Available data is insufficient to estimate the total quarterly renewal percentage for ccTLDs.

New generic top-level domain (ngTLD) domain name registrations totaled 34.6 million at the end of the second quarter of 2024, an increase of 1.3 million domain name registrations, or 4.0%, compared to the first quarter of 2024. ngTLD domain name registrations increased by 6.5 million domain names, or 23.2%, year-over-year. ngTLDs had an updated combined renewal percentage estimate of 38.0%.

At the end of the second quarter of 2024, the total number of other traditional generic top-level domain (gTLD) domain name registrations (excluding .com and .net) was 17.2 million, representing an increase of approximately 122,100 domain name registrations compared to the first quarter of 2024, or 0.7%. Other legacy gTLD domain name registrations increased by approximately 154,200 domain names or 0.9% year-over-year. The latest combined renewal percentage for other legacy gTLDs is estimated at 71.8%.

As of June 30, 2024, the top 10 TLDs by number of reported domain names were .com, .cn, .de, .net, .org, .uk, .ru, .nl, .br, and .au. For the top 10 TLDs for which there was available data, the most recent quarterly renewal percentage estimates ranged from 77.1 percent for .net and .ru to 72.3 percent.

With 316 global ccTLD extensions, including Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), licensed in the root zone, the top 10 ccTLDs account for 59% of all 59.0% of all ccTLD domain name registrations. For the top 10 ccTLDs with available data, the estimated percentage of recent quarterly renewals ranges from 83.4% for .fr to 75.8% for .uk.
