Recently, according to revelations from foreign media, news of another transaction involving a three-letter domain has surfaced. Rey.com, the owner of this ancient three-letter domain, has successfully concluded a significant deal today, selling the word 'Rey.com' for a price of $140,111 (approximately 1 million RMB).
Registered in August 2003, the domain 'Rey.com' carries meanings such as 'eye-catching,' 'hotly debated,' and 'hotly displayed' in Chinese. In English, it corresponds to the well-known American singer Lana Del Rey. It also holds the meaning of 'king,' referring to a wise and courageous individual. 'Rey' is a gender-neutral name derived from Spanish, Latin, and French origins.
In fact, the domain 'rey.com' was auctioned in 2017 for $50,499, equivalent to approximately 330,380 RMB at the exchange rate of that time.
This time, 'Rey.com' was also transacted through an auction, reaching a deal at around $140,000. The new owner is required to pay the six-figure amount they bid in the auction within a reasonable timeframe.
Like many three-letter .com domains, 'Rey.com' hasn't been actively used throughout its entire 20-year lifespan. It was operated by Pantherdomains based in Liechtenstein, at least until 2008, after which ownership changes may have occurred.
