Verisign released the Domain Name Industry Brief for the second quarter of 2025. The report shows that the global domain name registration volume continues to grow and the market vitality is steadily improving.
As of June 30, 2025, the total number of top-level domain (TLD) registrations in the world reached 371.7 million, an increase of 3.3 million from the previous quarter, a month-on-month increase of 0.9%; a year-on-year increase of 9.3 million, an increase of 2.6%.
In terms of traditional .com and .net domain names, the total number of registrations for the two was 170.5 million, an increase of 700,000 from the previous quarter, an increase of 0.4%; but a slight decrease of 100,000 year-on-year, a decrease of 0.1%.
It is worth noting that the number of newly registered .com and .net domain names reached 10.4 million, an increase from 9.2 million in the same period last year, showing the continued market demand for these two top-level domains.
In terms of country code top-level domains (ccTLDs), the global registration volume was 143.4 million, an increase of 400,000 from the previous month, an increase of 0.4%; an increase of 3.5 million from the previous year, an increase of 2.5%.
The number of new generic top-level domains (ngTLDs) was 39.5 million, an increase of 1.7 million from the previous month, an increase of 4.6%; an increase of 4.9 million from the previous year, an increase of 14.2%.
In terms of renewal rate, the combined renewal rate of .com and .net was 75.5%, an increase from 72.7% in the same period last year, showing that users are more willing to hold domain names for the long term.
In addition, Verisign's Q2 2025 financial report showed that revenue reached US$410 million, a year-on-year increase of 5.9%, which is in line with market expectations.
