Recently, GoDaddy has fully handed over the backend registration services of Amazon's remaining 12 top-level domains (gTLDs) to Identity Digital. This also means that the more than ten-year registration service cooperation between GoDaddy and Amazon has officially come to an end.

These domain names mainly include .coupon, .song, .zero and nine Japanese IDNs (such as "food", "home appliances", "ファッション", etc.). Among them, only the first five are currently open for registration, and the market response is relatively cold, with registrations generally around 100.

Amazon applied for a total of 54 domain names in the 2012 gTLD expansion plan, most of which were hosted by GoDaddy or Neustar in the early days. Since 2019, Amazon has gradually transferred domain name technical services to Nominet and other service providers. GoDaddy only retained the backend operations of the above 12 domain names until they were completely replaced recently.

The newly taken over Identity Digital (formerly Donuts and Afilias, brand integration in 2022) has now become the world's leading gTLD registration and technical service provider, managing more than 260 top-level domains, and its parent company is the private equity fund Ethos Capital.

The handover may reflect that GoDaddy is further focusing on its core business, while Identity Digital continues to consolidate its market position through integration and expansion. For Amazon, the continued "slimming down" of its domain name assets may also mean that its interest in the gTLD project has weakened, and the future commercialization path of these domain names remains unclear.
