VeriSign, a global domain name infrastructure service provider, released the Domain Name Industry Brief (DNIB) for the first quarter of 2025. The data showed that as of the end of the first quarter of 2025, the total number of all top-level domain names (TLDs) registered in the world reached 368.4 million, an increase of 4.2 million from Q4 2024, an increase of 1.1%; an increase of 6.1 million from Q1 2024, an increase of 1.7%, continuing the stable growth trend.

.com/.net registrations increased slightly from the previous quarter and continued to decline year-on-year
As traditional mainstream top-level domain names, the total number of .com and .net registrations reached 169.8 million, an increase of 800,000 from the previous quarter, an increase of 0.5%, but a decrease of 2.6 million from the previous year, a decrease of 1.5%, and an annual decline for the second consecutive year.
In terms of subdivision, the number of .com domain name registrations was 157.2 million, and .net reached 12.6 million. The total number of newly registered domain names for the two was 10.1 million, an increase of 6.3% from 9.5 million in Q1 2024. The preliminary quarterly combined renewal rate was 75.3%, maintaining a relatively high level in the industry.

The number of ccTLD registrations exceeded 140 million, and the demand for regional domain names was strong
The total number of country and region top-level domain names (ccTLD) registrations reached 142.9 million, an increase of 2.1 million from the previous month, an increase of 1.5%; an increase of 3.4 million from the previous year, an increase of 2.4%, a growth rate higher than the overall market.
The performance of regional domain names in Asia and Europe was outstanding, and mainstream ccTLDs such as .cn (China), .de (Germany), and .uk (UK) continued to occupy the top of the registration volume.
New generic top-level domains (ngTLDs) continued to grow rapidly, with 37.8 million registrations, an increase of 1 million from the previous month, an increase of 2.6%; a year-on-year increase of 4.5 million, an increase of 13.5%, the highest among all types of domain names.
Although its market share is only 10.3%, it attracts small and medium-sized institutions and personalized needs with diversified suffixes (such as .xyz, .online, etc.), and the comprehensive renewal percentage is 34.2%.
