Meta now owns Llama.com; it's bidding in the tens of millions of dollars

Meta, Inc. recently acquired the domain name Llama.com with a price tag of $9,999,999. The domain will point to the homepage of LLaMA, an open source AI model developed by Meta.

Launched in February 2023, LLaMA (Large Language Model Meta AI) is designed to provide researchers with a powerful tool with similar functionality to other large language models, while focusing more on efficiency and accessibility.

Registered in 1994, Llama.com previously had an asking price of $250,000, but with the launch of Meta, the price of the domain has risen significantly. While no final price has been confirmed, it is expected that this asking price was determined through negotiations between the seller, PerfectDomain and Meta.

The acquisition marks a further extension of Meta's reach in the AI space and provides an important online platform for the promotion of the LLaMA model.
