British company Hopin has had its fair share of ups and downs in recent years, starting with Hopin.to and then "upgrading" to the shorter domain Hop.in.
After closing a $6.5 million funding round, the company spent another $50,000 on the 2020 transition to the Indian ccTLD.
But then they woke up: it was time to acquire the matching .com domain, Hopin.com.

The only problem: the domain was being used by a Greek travel service company founded in 1952. Hopin.com has been their domain name since 1998, along with its Greek counterpart in the country code top-level domain, Hopin.gr.
The British company Hopin recently relocated its headquarters to the United States.
Hopin.com upgraded from .to to .in to .com
Hopin co-founder DaveSchools shares a short but amazing story about how the company spent $375,000 to acquire the domain name Hopin.com from an Athens registrar.
Over the course of a year, they sent 12 emails, but most likely did not receive any substantial offers. Once a $50,000 offer was mentioned, the registrant responded.
Hopin needed to launch .com quickly and time was of the essence; being well funded helped seal the deal. According to Dave Schools, they got the domain 30 minutes before an important company meeting.
The sale of Hopin.com for $375,000 is certainly a huge cash injection for the Greek company, which operates through Hopin.gr but still displays .com in one of its graphics!
