In a recent UDRP case for the SigFi.ai domain name, the Chinese Respondent was shocked by the Complainant's claims and stated that it is just a fan of the ".ai" domain name.

The Complainant, Nvest, Inc. (d/b/a SigFig), claims to have been founded in 2006 as a provider of digital wealth solutions, and that its trademark, SIGFIG, is widely recognized in the financial industry.

Chinese register SigFi.ai, sued for unconditional transfer!

The Respondent, however, claims to be a mere fan of the ".ai" domain name and raises several arguments: they state that there is no law preventing them from registering the Anguilla ccTLD; they argue that Sigfig.ai does not adversely affect the Complainant; and, finally, they allege that the Complainant is attempting to underbid them for the Sigfig.ai domain name.

In response, the Panel finds that the Respondent registered the Sigfig.ai domain name with full knowledge of the Complainant's mark and concludes that the Respondent registered and is using the domain name for the purpose of profiting from or exploiting the Complainant's mark.

Ultimately, the Panel agreed to transfer the SigFig.ai domain name to the Complainant.

This UDRP case has attracted industry attention and calls for more regulation and supervision of domain name infringement.
