After George Kirikos reported on his FreeSpeech.com blog last week that Gold.com sold for an eye-watering $8,515,000 in March, there's no doubt which domain name will be gracing our latest bi-weekly sales chart. The deal, brokered by Hilco Digital Assets Managing Director Andrew Miller (who also happens to be the subject of our current cover story), also occupies the top spot on our chart of the year's highest sales so far, and is among the top 10 publicly reported. Cash domain sales hit an all-time high.
While the sale of Gold.com may have briefly taken the spotlight off the hot .ai ball, it hasn't slowed the momentum of hot ccTLD sales. With $104,900 in sales for the No. 2-ranked Crew.ai, Namecheap reports that in that regard, .ai took five of the top 10 spots on our latest extension-wide top 20 sales chart, for a total of six spots. Another favorite, ccTLD.io, came in third with a $70,000 sale of Mind.io, which was handled jointly by Joe Uddeme of NameExperts.com (representing the buyer) and Efty.com (representing the seller). To show you how dominant .ai and .io have been this year, check out our year-to-date chart of the top country/region code top sales (the second chart on the page linked to), and you'll see that the top 10 sales in that ranking are for .ai or .io in every category.
The non.com gTLD obviously ran into some very stiff competition this time around, but they still got two seats on the Big Board, both of which came through Afternic. They raised $23,500 for #10VVV.net and $10,000 for #10 (tie) Harmony.cloud.
Here's how all the leaders did in the two weeks ending Sunday, May 12, 2024
